It is my pleasure, on behalf of our 13 member counties to thank you for your interest in Southeast Nebraska and we look forward to welcoming your event or family to our unique brand of hospitality in the very near future.

 My sincerest thanks go out to all of you for the efforts put forth during the pandemic to provide a safe environment for your families and hometowns in recent months.  Without you, we would not have tourism and again, my thanks to each of you for your interest in resuming your travel planning and the return of the many rewards that discovering a new destination brings to all of us.

 Many of our hidden treasures, as well as great annual traditions shine brightly to travelers each and every year. You will find friendly service in our many high-quality facilities, comfortable accommodations, and first class athletic venues and convention space.

 Furthermore, Southeast Nebraska offers a wide variety of activities to entertain including fine parks, museums, restaurants, theaters and shopping centers.  Our lodging facility skyline is dotted with many unique, bed and breakfasts and campsites that overlook some of the most breathtaking scenery in our State.

Preserved to reflect a moment in time (the year 1939), The museum is the only known surviving intact historic windmill factory in the United States. It represents a time capsule for early twentieth-century shop-type manufacturing, preserved to reflect a moment in time in 1939, as if the factory employees just went to lunch.

MRB-Lewis & Clark Center (2017-2019 Partner)

Providing unique experiences to approximately 10,000 visitors each year. Opportunities to rediscover the wonders of nature while “walking in the footsteps” of Lewis & Clark along the 2.5 miles of trails. Exterior exhibits include a 55-foot long keel boat, a Native American earth lodge, and a river overlook platform. Interactive exhibits inside the 12,000 square foot three-story building provide unique historic, scientific, cultural, recreational, and educational experiences to visitors with a wide range of interests and backgrounds. Students learn about the items that Lewis & Clark discovered and documented using President Thomas Jefferson’s methods of observation and discovery.

Nebraska City Museum Association was established to coordinate the efforts of the museums in Nebraska City & Otoe County so that all museums might be better utilized by citizens and visitors to the community. The Association provides professional museum consultation in regard to long-range planning, exhibitions, educational programming, and collections management. The Association also promotes awareness of its ten member museums: Civil War Veterans Museum, Kregel Windmill Factory Museum, Mayhew Cabin & John Brown’s Cave, Missouri River Basin Lewis & Clark Visitor Center, Nebraska City Museum of Firefighting, Nelson House, Old Freighters Museum, Otoe County Museum of Memories, River Country Nature Center, and Wildwood Historic Center.

The Brownville Historical Society is dedicated to preserving Brownville’s history. From April to October, we provide access to our history through museums and displays, including the Railroad History Museum, Land Office, Sage Museum (Native American History), Didier Log Cabin, Wheel Museum, and the Carson and Bailey Homes. Tours welcome.

The Brownville Village Theatre is Nebraska’s oldest rotating repertory theatre. Audiences from all over enjoy shows produced by company members. In a weekend, one could see five different shows ranging from comedy to musical to farce. The season runs June through August with limited productions throughout the year.

See history come alive at the Deer Creek Sodbusters Antique Machinery Show. The 2019 event takes place on August 11. Located four and one-half miles south of Sterling, NE. Great Plains Welsh Heritage Centre is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the contributions of the Welsh pioneers on the North American prairies. The mission has the honor of being the only Welsh museum in the U.S. and Canada dedicated to those hardy settlers of Welsh ancestry. We also are home to the one-room school located in McCandless Park in Wymore, NE.

This National Park Service site commemorates the Homestead Act of 1862. Homestead National Monument of American is open daily, except for Thanksgiving, December 25, and January 1, and is free to visit. Humboldt Shares is an opportunity for a proactive investment in our community. Humboldt Shares is a local effort to pool finances to be utilized to foster economic development.
