Hollywood Oscar-Winner John P. Fulton Topic of Upcoming Film Event ~ Gage County Historical Society’s Classic Film Institute will present “The Life and Career of John P. Fulton” on Friday, March 3 and 4, at the Community Players Theater, 412 Ella St. in Beatrice, with special guest, Joanne Fulton Schaefer, daughter of John P. Fulton. Joanne will share stories of her father John P. Fulton, as well as her grandfather, Fitch Fulton, who was an Oscar-winning matte artist. Joanne grew up watching her father work with some of the top directors and stars. Her best friend was Nancy Sinatra and her childhood home was the former home of Amelia Earhart.

People can attend one or all three of the following sessions. Each session will which feature a film John P. Fulton did special effects for. John won one of his three Oscars for special effects for “The Bridges of Toko-Ri” and was nominated for “Tulsa,” but lost to his father, Fitch who did special effects for “Mighty Joe Young.”

* Saturday, March 4 at 9 am, “Tulsa” (1949); speakers Joanne Fulton Schaefer and Gage County Museum Director Lesa Arterburn
* Saturday, March 4 at 2 pm, “The Bridges of Toko-Ri” (1949); speakers Joanne Fulton Schaefer and Jeanelle Kleveland

Cost is $10 per session or $25 for all three. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Gage County Museum in Beatrice.

A Question & Answer session will be held Saturday, March 4, 12:15-1:45 pm during lunch at the Primavera Room at Valentino’s, 701 Court St. Beatrice. Moderator will be film historian Bruce Crawford of Omaha Film Event. There are no tickets for the Q & A session – people can buy their own buffet to attend.
