2017 Total Solar Eclipse 

Total Solar Eclipse ~ August 21, 2017

Many of the twelve counties that make up Southeast Nebraska Tourism Council are within the prime viewing path of the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. On the map above, the closer a location is the the red line, the longer the total eclipse will be experienced. Listed below are the communities in our area that have events planned around the eclipse:

BEATRICE (Gage County)
Many events are planned for the days leading up to the eclipse, as well as on the day of the eclipse. Visit EclipseBeatrice.com for details.

CRETE & WILBER (Saline County)
These two communities are partnering offer Saline Solar Shadow, three days of events, including tours, presentations, food fairs, and viewing points. See http://www.wilberchamberofcommerce.com/calendar/saline-solar-shadow/ for details and a printable schedule of events.

FALLS CITY (Richardson County)
At noon on August 21, Falls City will host “Dine in the Dark” eclipse event at 12:00 noon. For more information, visit https://fallscityareachamber.com/event/dine-in-the-dark/

FILLMORE COUNTY
Fillmore County has many viewing sites and events happening in our communities. Visit http://www.visitfillmorecounty.org/eclipse for details.

HEBRON (Thayer County)
SCC Hebron Learning Center SOLAR ECLIPSE Event takes place at 610 Jefferson Avenue from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Enjoy lunch ($6.00) and a great view of the Solar Eclipse, with glasses provided and live feed from NASA! Call 402-323-5591 for information.

HUMBOLDT (Richardson County)
Lotus House of Yoga is hosting a donation based yoga class on August 21st at the old football field to view the eclipse. The Sun Salutation Class begins at 11 am and is open to the public.  All donations go to the city of Humboldt.  More information is available in the event’s Eventbrite listing.

BROWNVILLE (Nemaha County)
The River Inn Resort, Brownville, is hosting a unique solar eclipse viewing event on the upper deck of the hotel located on the Missouri River. The August 21 event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 11:00 a.m. Partial phase of the eclipse in Brownville is expected to begin at 11:39 a.m. Totality in the area is expected at 1:04 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided, and lunch items and drinks will be available for purchase.  Free eclipse viewing glasses will be given to the first 50 people to arrive. PAWNEE CITY (Pawnee County)
Pawnee County has multiple prime viewing sites available, several of which include entertainment, food vendors, and souvenir items. Visit PawneeCountyNebraska.com/2017-eclipse/ for more information.

WYMORE (Gage County)
The Great Plains Welsh Heritage Centre – 307 S. 7th St, Wymore, NE. After the Eclipse, enjoy a Watermelon Feed in the Welsh Garden next to the Center from 1:30 to 4 pm. Free and open to the public.

Eclipse Viewing on Missouri River at Brownville ~ The River Inn Resort will host a unique solar eclipse viewing event on the upper deck of the hotel located on the Missouri River. The viewing is free and open to the public and begins at 11:00 a.m. Partial phase of the eclipse in Brownville is expected to begin at 11:39 a.m.Totality in the area is expected at 1:04 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided, and lunch items and drinks will be available for purchase. Free eclipse viewing glasses will be given to the first 50 people to arrive.               Riverboat cruises on The Spirit of Brownville will be available on the day of eclipse ($14.95 for the hour-long cruise). The Kregel Windmill Factory Museum will host an exhibit and silent auction to commemorate the founding of the Kregel Windmill Company August 19, 1879, by cousins Louis and George Kregel. A timeline exhibit will outline important dates in the history of the company.  A silent auction, featuring over 35 items, will be held, along with a free reception at the Kregel Museum, with snacks and drinks for anyone interested in making a bid at the auction.
